In Brief: A list of the latest Siafoo features and improvements

This Release (R8.5) (6 August 2008 - Dedicated to August's Perseid Meteor Showers)

  • Redesigned filters interface and cleaner browse pages
  • Redesigned comments
  • A Siafoo search box is now in the menu bar (Bonus: see if you can figure out the keyboard shortcut to activate it)
  • Search autocompletion (still in alpha but check it out)
  • reST in your user About Me field
  • Improved math rendering
  • Improved My Libraries widget (This will only show up if you own or subscribe to libraries)
  • Error messages (404 not found, 403 insufficient permissions, etc) now more specific
  • Activity stream on home page will now update itself every 15 minutes
  • New Language: Nodebox (implemented by Theodore Test)

Last Release (R8) (22 July 2008 - In anticipation of the total solar eclipse in 2009) [1]

  • A redesigned about page shows you Siafoo's coolest features

  • Math support, like (see LaTeX Style Math)

  • Book citations by ISBN using the directive .. book:: 0-321-33489-2 or the interpreted text role :book:`0-321-33489-2` (see Citations)

  • opengl.org links inside reST (for example, :opengl:`glBegin` will produce glBegin)

  • Improved full screen code and reST editor (with split screen and AJAX preview)

Way back (R7) (11 June 2008 - Celebrating the launch of the Venera 4 probe to Venus in 1967) [2]

  • We're no longer invite-only -- anyone can create an account
  • Most of the regular site pages have been redesigned or at least improved
  • Update streams (like the Trac timeline) on algorithms, articles, and snippets
  • Related items shown when viewing an algorithm, article, library, or snippet
  • More intuitive bread crumbs when browsing

  • Homepage nodule for quickly locating snippets inside libraries you own or subscribe to
  • Time zone support

  • Streamlined Browse page, with subscription management
  • Snippets can be embedded in a webpage or blog using javascript or direct html
  • Messages can be composed from the messages page and sent to one or more users (thanks to Andrew Stromberg for recommending this)
  • Login name support in any send message or object box
  • Block indentation inside full-screen edit boxes (using tab and shift-tab)
  • Images can be easily added to any description
  • Better Internet Explorer 6 and 7 and Opera support

Way way way back (R5) (14 March 2008 - St. Patrick's Day)

Siafoo R5 is primarily a bug fix release, and so most changes are either internal in nature or bugs we hope you didn't notice. However since we had to put something on this page, we took the time to implement the following features and improvements:

  • Full screen editing of reST and source code fields
  • Moved your homepage navigation to the top navigation bar
  • Removed the leading whitespace on snippets to make copy/pasting of code easier
  • Added lots of e-mail notification options in your profile options
  • You can now access a user's profile by login using /user/login, for me it would be http://www.siafoo.net/user/stou and for David http://www.siafoo.net/user/david
  • Added an XSLT Lexer
  • Replaced the autocompleter widget with a new, way better one.

  • You can now upload snippet files instead of copy/pasting their contents.
  • We have added some cool statistics charts to user and group profiles.
  • You can also embed YouTube videos inside articles.
  • We have added a lexer for the tcsh scripting language.
  • You can now revert to a previous version of an Article or Snippet.
  • We have also tried to make the site easier to use by adding more help messages and links.

Way way way way way way back (R2) (29 December 2007)

  • You can now create articles
  • Upload your contacts in CSV or vCard format
  • Sort options for object browsing
